GGP Inc (GGP.N), one of the largest owners and operators of U.S. shopping centres, has rejected a $14.8 billion (11.1 billion pounds) buyout offer from its biggest shareholder, Brookfield Property Partners LP (BPY.N), people familiar with the matter said on Sunday. Brookfield Property made a $23-per-share cash and stock offer last month for the 66 percent of GGP it does not already own. Brookfield Property Partners LP offered $14.8 billion to buy additional shares of Chicago-based GGP Inc., which owns about 125 high-end malls across the country. Brookfield said Monday that it is willing to pay $23 a share — half in cash, half in equity — for the 66 percent of GGP that it does not currently own, per The Wall Street Journal . In the wake of the Journal’s report, GGP shares jumped 7.43 percent.
