Analysts Just Upgraded These 3 Apartment REITs
As real estate investment trusts (REITs) were underperforming in 2022, analysts in the major brokerages and banks were busy slashing target prices and downgrading many of the REITs, citing threats from inflation, higher interest rates, increasing risk of defaults, increasing occupancy and higher costs. But 2023 seems to be ushering in a new, more friendly stance by analysts, and there have been many more upgrades in ratings and price targets since the beginning of the month. Analysts are startin

7 Dividend Stocks That Will Be Big Winners in 2023
With the shifting of market fortunes over the past year, we’ve seen a major rotation. Growth stocks are out. Meanwhile, investors have gravitated to value and dividend stocks. That’s an entirely logical reaction, as these sorts of stocks tend to hold up better during bear markets and recessions. However, the rush of money into these safe havens has made a lot of former value stocks less attractive. There is good news, however. Not all value and dividend stocks have gotten bid up yet. In fact, th

Many people are moving to more conservative holdings, understandably shaken by the magnitude and velocity of declines in growth securities in 2022. This has created some unintended consequences to be aware of. Many safe haven companies in sectors such as consumer staples and utilities have run up significantly. The rush into safe dividend stocks has made valuations much less ap

These REITs Were Hit Hardest by 2022's Rate Hikes
Real estate was the second-worst-performing sector after technology in 2022, primarily because of multiple rate hikes. The Federal Reserve raised the benchmark federal funds rate seven times last year to the highest level in 15 years to mitigate inflationary pressures. The S&P United States REIT index plunged 27% in 2022. The benchmark S&P 500 index, in comparison, is down 19.4% over the past year. The recessionary concerns have also battered real estate investment trusts (REITs), as demand for

Analysts Just Downgraded These 2 REITs
Analyst downgrades hurt. Investors can awaken any morning to find one of their stocks down heavily following an analyst downgrade. The stock may retreat even further as word spreads. Often it’s a reaction to a stock that has run up and seems overbought. But other times, as with many real estate investment trusts (REITs) in 2022, the downgrades come after a stock has already been clobbered. The two REITs below received downgrades from multiple analysts within the past few weeks. But are these dow

Major REITs Now Hitting New 52-Week Lows As The Fed Raises Interest Rates Further
The Federal Reserve continues to make it tough for real estate investment trusts (REITs). After raising rates even more this week, investors dumped major REITs so much that a number of them tanked to new lows for the last 52 weeks. Almost anyone who purchased these for the dividend payments over the last year is now at a loss with the position. Anticipating a drop in revenue and income has REIT analysts generally reducing price targets and downgrading names. Fund investors are looking at the eff

Random member testimonial: "This last year I have subscribed to two investment services, ValueForum and a well known income newsletter. ValueForum costs a little over 200 per year. The income newsletter costs about 400 per year. I am up 11% on investments made because I heard about them on ValueForum (of course, I do my own research on everything but the ideas came from ValueForum and there was always some discussion of the pros and cons of each investment on VF). I am down 8% on investments made because I heard about them from the income newsletter. I might also add that I often hear about breaking events immediately on ValueForum and a day or two later the same information is finally available from the newsletter. Hmmm...... which service is the better value?" more testimonials »
